I had this Amazonite cabochon and I loved how the blue-green color paired with pearls and gold. I think the blue-green is very evocative of the ocean and I envisioned a fishnet that had gotten “Lost At Sea” and collected some objects that got tangled in its strands.
I wanted to use up pearls I had in my stash and I thought a big focal statement piece would be something a high-class or royal mermaid might wear!
This can be worn with the medallion or without – the lobster clasps hook into the loops at the top of the medallion. To wear without, the clasps go at the back of the neck. Also, the critters are interchangeable, and the wearer can add new things and change things out as well!
Medallion: Stitched with Czech and Miyuki seed beads size 8/11/15, Amazonite cabochon with flatback pearl beads (I think they are freshwater pearls, they had been in my stash for years), 4mm Czech fire polish mounted on a leather backing.
Necklace: Stitched with Czech and Miyuki seed beads size 11, pearls (probably freshwater) in round, potato, and rice shapes, 4 mm Czech fire polish.
Critters/Flotsam/Jetsam: Czech/Miyuki seed beads in size 8/11, flower beads for the jellyfish heads, plastic pearls inside the shells, and sequins for the fish eyes. Inside the bottles are a piece of a paper bag, and some tiny UV resin shells and critters. Sealed with glue and topped with gold acrylic paint.
Patterns: None used for the pendant and main part of the necklace. Netting stitch in a loose style was used for the necklace. No pattern was used for the jellyfish; remaining critters as below:
